BFTTA

Sunday saw the final BFTTA Lee Valley open meeting of summer 2023. A huge thank you to Mark Smith for the write up, photos and athlete support for this and all of the BFTTA meetings this season!

Stephanie Smith (U15) & James Gillingham (Snr) both opened & concluded the Beagles showing with their events of 100m in the morning & 200m late afternoon.

In the 100m Stephanie had to contend with 3 seasons of weather in the final 15 minutes before her race, summer quickly moved to autumn with overcast clouds, a light sprinkling of rain and a cold chill wind, resolving just before the race back to a spring like day but still a cold wind. Running a new PB of 13.86, it concluded her summer 100m events. In the afternoon Stephanie rounded her outing with the 200m recording 28.09.

James opened his 100m double with 11.17 frustrated with a technical aspect of his race, he came back out for the second round stronger but more relaxed bringing home a PB equalling 11:07 though wind added with 4.0m/s. His afternoon 200m 23.06 potentially concluded his summer sprint outings, wrapping up a successful season that has seen his return to form from his peak 10 years ago.

Finley Lethbridge
(u11) had a close packed afternoon with only 18mins between his 150m and 600m, turning out respectfully 23.89 and 2:04.70.

In the 800m Frankie Edwards and Ollie Johnson, both u13, raced in heat 1, Frankie hit the front early and maintaining a great pace, in the final straight he held off a strong challenge finishing with a new PB of 2:31.09, Ollie finished strongly with 2:36.09 running a good tactical race and only 3/10’s outside his PB.

Max Sanderson (u17) and Mattie Delea (u15) contended heat 2. Max set about running a lone race opening a defining gap by the end of the first 150m that would see him unopposed and running his own time trial commanding a significant lead and finishing in 2:02.65. Mattie, a sole u15 held his own well, finishing in 2:20.98.

Parkrun / Junior parkrun round up

The Beagles were out and running well on Saturday morning at Parkrun. At Brentwood, Elliot Worth finished 6th (20:25) with Stuart Crowther in 13th (22:46) and a new course PB for Daniel Smith (23:25) and Laura Durn (23:54). At Colney Lane parkrun Oliver Weston-Stokes made his course debut with a good run (22:52). At Raphaels we saw good consistent running from Benjamin Corcoran (21:07) and Emily Brewington (23:03).
