Another week of School’s action with all of the district competitions taking place and the ISA National event delivering us more champions. Well done to all our athletes who achieved school’s success! We also saw some brilliant running by our younger Beagles at the Benfleet 1.5 miles race – well done to all who attended.
Loughborough Open and BMC
Two of our Beagles travelled to Loughborough this week to run at the University track over 3000m. On Wednesday night, Max Sanderson competed in the Open event running well to finish 4th in strong competition with a time of 8:40.24.
On Saturday, Olivia Forrest attended the BMC event and had a great race against a mixed field of top international female talent. Focused on her own pacing, Olivia finished 1st U18 athlete and 6th overall and took 5 seconds off her PB to finish in 9:21.94 – a time that places her second on the European U18 ranking list. Well done!
BFTTA
Sunday’s BFTTA Open saw our Beagles making the most of the warm conditions! One of the earliest events in the day Hollie Poyton (U15) showed determination to make the final 8 in the Long Jump, with a best of 4.08m.
In the 800m Missy Tiller (U15) committed to a fast start & tried to maintain an early pace, finishing with 2:21.00. In the second heat Daniel Smith (U13) paced his race with a controlled manner & resultant new PB of 2:47.33.
As is tradition at most of the outdoor BFTTA meetings, the 100m sees athletes compete over 2 rounds, the second round approximately an hour later and being reseeded in a heat with similar timed athletes to improve the competition aiming to achieve improved times and possible PBs.
Katie Lowe (U15) was first up for Beagles, and ran 13.18, electing not the run the second round but focus on her planned 200m later in the afternoon. Tobias Maitland (U17) and Wayne Imbuwa (U17) both showed tremendous consistency with Tobias 12:25 and 12:26, Wayne 12:08 and 12:07. Masters athlete Stuart Carter completed the 100m for Beagles with a fabulous new PB of 13.11.
The final event of the day for Beagles athletes was the 200m. Hollie returned to the track from her earlier long jump outing setting a new PB of 28.63.
The second heat of the 200m saw 3 Beagles fellow squad members lining up in lanes 5, 6, and 7, Ava Carter, Poppy Horton and Stephanie Smith, respectfully, and all U15. A strong bend saw Stephanie leading the transition to the home straight and continued with a strong finish, a national championships qualifying time, and new PB of 26.48 (wind legal at 0.1m/s), Poppy following in also with a great new PB of 27.00 and Ava 27.3. Katie Lowe following on from her earlier 100m was in the next heat running a strong 27.32.
Tobias having already run 2 rounds of the 100m, showed great strength in his 200m running a new PB of 25.09. Finally Callum Goodey (U20) was the final Beagle of the day, normally seen in the 400m showed a good turn of speed with a 24.19 for his 200m.
Thanks @marksmith.sprints for the report and photos
