Beginners are welcome
Many of our adult members started with a first 10K or half marathon. Elaine Forrest completed her first marathon in London in 2023, and Rebecca Hurrell set out to break four hours in London in 2024 and finished in 3:54:42. At the 2026 Brentwood Half Marathon, two Beagles ran as official pacers for the 1 hour 50 and two-hour groups. Your plan starts from where you are now.

How blood lactate testing helps your training
A blood lactate test shows how hard you can run before lactate starts to build faster than your body clears it. Your coach uses that threshold to set heart rate and pace zones, so easy runs stay easy and quality sessions hit the right intensity. Repeat tests show whether your fitness is moving in the right direction before race day. Speak to a coach at your next club session to book a test.
Moving from another running club?
Free blood lactate testing and personalised race plans are for first claim members, so to use them you would make Brentwood Beagles your first claim club. You can still race open events and parkrun as you do now, and you would represent the Beagles in league and championship races. Read more about first and second claim membership.
