June is the heart of the summer season, and the Beagles filled every weekend of it. There were Southern Area titles at Bedford, an Eastern Young Athletes’ League fixture at Thurrock that brought a huge jump in team points, a sunny Essex Schools Championships in Chelmsford that produced six county school champions, and a packed Essex Mile Championships where the club finished third team overall.
Add in the Essex 10k Championship at High Easter, the Southend Half Marathon, open meetings at Watford and Shaftesbury, the ISA National Championships, races at Lee Valley Velopark, Southern Championships medals back in Chelmsford and Beagles vests in Canada, America and Cardiff, and you have a month with something for everyone. If you missed our last update you can catch up with the May round-up, then read on for all of June’s results.

BMC (British Milers Club) Meeting, Loughborough
The month began at the BMC meeting in Loughborough, and it began with a win. U20 Max Sanderson (8:29:39) took victory in the 3000m with a strong, controlled performance. In the 1500m, U14 Madison Kindler (4:30.29) continued her excellent season, U16 Heidi Woodley (4:38.01) held her own in quality company, and U14 Sophia Davies (4:38.10) came away with a new personal best.
Orion Forest Five
Away from the track and into the trails for the Orion Harriers Forest Five, where Will Gazzard (32.53) produced a brilliant 10th place finish.
Southern Area Championships, Bedford International Stadium
A memorable day of championship racing at Bedford International Stadium. U18 Evie Warn (7:25.0) took bronze in the 2000m steeplechase, finishing 3rd in a race run during a downpour of rain. In the same event, U18 Lewis Ton (8:12.19) made his debut at the distance and recorded a personal best, keeping going despite a fall, which takes real character.
U20 Max Sanderson (3:59.17) was a superb winner of the 1500m for Southern Area championship gold, and U16 Sophie Bickerstaff (10:11.09) claimed championship silver with 2nd place in the 3000m.
Eastern Young Athletes' League, Thurrock
The team headed to Thurrock for the next EYAL fixture and the club’s points score far exceeded the previous round, an excellent example of team work from start to finish. Plenty of athletes stepped outside their comfort zone to fill gaps, and the personal bests came thick and fast.
The highest scoring team of the day was the U16 girls, with everyone covering events outside their comfort zone:
- Jessica Thomson (100m 15.9 PB, long jump 3.74m PB, javelin 15.29 PB)
