This week saw one of the pinnacle events of the UK Track and Field season for young athletes – the English schools competition which offered a great new experience for four of our athletes. We also saw great performances elsewhere through the week – well done all!
English Schools Championships
A great first day on Friday at the English Schools Championships for our Beagles with Olivia Forrest taking gold in the intermediate girls 3000m event with a dominant performance in a time of 9:26.01.
The junior girls 1500m heats were hotly contested with a strong run from Heidi Woodley in hers to finish just outside her PB and qualification in 4:41.94. Summer Smith battled hard at the front of her heat to finish first with a dip over the line and qualification to Saturday’s final – 4:35.57 (PB)
In the inter boys 3000m, Max Sanderson led the pack most of the way before a strong finish by several boys saw him finish second to qualify for Saturday’s final – 8:47.32.
Day two and Max Sanderson took on the inter boys 3000m final – a very closely contested race with all competitors running in a tightly packed group for several laps before Max broke away with a handful of other boys. Taking the lead with 600m to go Max strided strongly but couldn’t quite hang onto the line finishing in a brilliant 5th place – 8:36.88.
The junior girls 1500m was a similarly competitive race with a slow first lap followed by much jostling for position. A breakaway group saw Summer Smith fight with the leaders and give her best before falling back to 6th – 4:39.42.
The day also saw the parade of counties really emphasising the scale of the event and number of athletes involved.
Well done again to all four ESAA Beagles – an amazing experience and we know there is even more to come for you all!
Watford Wednesday
A small turnout of Beagles at Watford this week but still great performances. The 800m focused evening saw Isabel Forrest running first with a good performance just marginally behind her PB – 2:35.81. Louis King also took to the track with a great front running performance which rewarded him with a brilliant new PB – 2:11.19.
Crown to Crown
A great performance for Jake Mitchell at this month’s 5k Crown to Crown saw him not only take 3rd place overall but also saw him first under 18 to pick up the chocolate prize! A great new course PB too – 19:26.
London 10k
It’s always amazing to run on the closed streets of London, and this Sunday Dean Savery took the opportunity by running in the London 10K event. A brilliant run saw him finish second in his age group and 75th overall. Hitting 5k in 17:09, Dean finished the 10k in 35:30.

At Lake Meadows, 2 newcomers to our newsletter with Ivy Kernohan (10:34) finishing 38th and Sage Kernohan (11:57 PB) 60th and collecting her best ever 2km time, well done!
Last but certainly not least, a great result at Chelmsford with Beagles finishing 1st and 2nd. Congratulations to Adam Armour (07:36) who collected his first 1st finisher token, just crossing the line ahead of Oliver Weston-Stokes (07:45) in 2nd.
Well done to all our runners this weekend. Note for parents, if your child has an * by their name, please help our editors by adding Brentwood Beagles as their club under their parkrun profile (groups). And if you ran, and aren’t featured at all, then please add the club to your profile so we can find you!!! Feel free to contact us if you need help setting this up.
