This week a number of the team have been enjoying watching the Commonwealth Games athletics up in Birmingham. It’s been great to see the quality of competition on display. There were still some opportunities for competition closer to home so well done to all of those who competed over the last week.

Battersea Runthrough

Taking advantage of the longer summer evenings, Olivia and Isabel Forrest travelled to Battersea on Wednesday night to compete in the 5K Chase the Sun event. A very warm summer evening and a strong field saw Olivia finish as 4th woman in 19.08 and Isabel finish as 8thwoman in 21.11.

Parkrun and junior parkrun

Our Beagles travelled around the country to compete in their weekend Parkrun / junior parkrun events.

Congratulations to Ollie Johnson who managed a new personal best of 23.32 at Thurrock parkrun. Up at Arrow Valley parkrun in Redditch, Ollie Trevor raced to a new PB – paced by coach Paul, Ollie ran 26.21. Also at Arrow Valley, Olivia Forrest finished as first woman in 19:12 closely followed by coach Rob who is still recovering from injury in 19.22. Isabel Forrest finished in 20:40. Well done too to Stuart Crowther who ran at Brentwood Parkrun in a strong time of 21.40.

On Sunday Harrow Lodge junior parkrun was once again overrun with Beagles. Congratulations to Mattie Delea who matched his PB of 7:21 and finished first male, Ollie Johnson who took his second PB of the weekend with 8.25, Libbie Gordon who had a great run to finish in a new PB of 9:27 and Isla Johnson who also ran another new PB of 11:32. Well done to Stephanie Smith, Hudson Jeffery and Henley Jeffery who all also participated and ran brilliantly and to Olivia and Isabel Forrest who ran at Bromsgrove Juniors finishing first overall and second female respectively.

National finals

We are really pleased to report that two of our athletes will be heading to the Bedford International Athletic Stadium at the end of the month having qualified to compete in the England Athletics U15 & U17 National Championships. Congratulations to Max Sanderson who will be taking on the U15M 800m and to Olivia Forrest who will be competing in the U15W 3000m. We’re incredibly proud of you both for taking the Beagles colours to their first National final.

Sprints & Hurdles Day and Sports Scholarship Workshop

If you have an athlete U15 or over and want to know more about securing a sports or Track & Field scholarship for financial assistance to study at University in the USA – please remember to reach out to your coach or contact us through our website. We are holding a workshop to cover the topic on the afternoon of 20th August. This is the same day we have two times Commonwealth Games Sprint Hurdler, Julie Pratt-Benterman coming to coach our Summer Sprint Hurdles Masterclass – this is available discounted to club members and is suitable for all U15/U17 athletes of any ability (if U13, please speak with us first) – places have filled up rapidly but we have some places for club members that we held back. If you’re interested, please get in touch before they all go. This is your chance to be coached by an Elite Athlete!

Your Pictures & News Required!
