With the Country celebrating the Coronation and the best of British, our Beagles have had lots to celebrate too with another week full of PB’s and success.

Watford Open

Another night of brilliant racing at Watford on Wednesday saw brave and committed running from all our Beagles.

First up, and making his Watford debut, was Louis King who ran a solid 1500m in 5:22.21.

Max Sanderson also ran 1500m with one of his best strategic performances to date and a final lap that saw him extend his lead and move away from the field. Super 24 second PB – 4:19.38

Olivia and Isabel Forrest both competed in the same 3000m race and both came away with great new PBs. Olivia had another brilliant last lap where her sprinting saw her overtake many in the field to finish with a 10:01.77 PB. Isabel ran a very consistent pace through the race to take ten seconds off her previous best and go sub 11 minutes – 10:58.49.

BFTTA

Summer temperatures and sunshine found its way to the Lee Valley BFTTA open meeting Sunday 7 May 2023. Some of the Beagles athletes took full advantage of the warm weather.

During the morning Lianne Esterhuysen (U11) competed in the Long Jump (2.5m) and later in the afternoon ran a tactical and strong 600m in a time of 2:03.65 just shy of her PB.

In the double 100m, where athletes run a heat then are reseeded to run again against similar timed athletes to encourage greater PBs, Mirabelle Richter (U15) ran consistently with 13.91 PB, and 13.99. Jake Mitchell (U15) also showed consistency with a 14.24 PB, and 14.41 for the second round. Mirabelle was back on the track later in the afternoon running another PB in the 200m with 28.91. Jake ran again in the 800m with another PB of 2:32.39.

Mattie Delea
(U15) demonstrated a positive approach and strong finish in the 800m with a resulting PB of 2:16.68.

Making her debut over the infrequently provided 150m Stephanie Smith (U15) performed well with a 20.91 (PB) and was back on the start line less than 40minutes later for the 200m with another PB of 28.37.

To conclude the Beagles afternoon, in addition to Mirabelle and Stephanie, 3 more competed in the 200m. Lead of the Beagle sprint group Ella Gilder-Briggs (U15) pushed a hard bend and kept the rhythm down the home straight bringing in an impressive PB of 27.07, just in front of Ava Carter (U15) 27.56 also a PB, and Honey Peck (U15) 28.10 PB.

A great sharpener and confidence booster for the Essex County Championships 1 week away.

Coming Up

Wednesday night offers a choice of competition – the popular Crown to Crown 5k starts it’s summer series and is open to all over 12. Or on track, Thames Valley Harriers have an evening open with several of our Beagles travelling to the Linford Christie Stadium. Next weekend is the Essex track and field championships – we are sure all our athletes will do us proud at the event and we hope to come away with an Essex Champion or two!
