Disappointment this week after a short notice cancellation of the SEAA cross country meant those Beagles who were off to represent Essex didn’t get to run! Fortunately, there was lots of indoor action elsewhere with the minithon featuring Sir Mo Farah and a BFTTA taking place.

Lee Valley Minithon

For some of our younger Beagles, Saturday presented a great opportunity to have some fun, compete in some brilliantly competitive athletics and to meet Mo Farah at the Lee Valley minithon.

Well done to Evie Foley, Lianne Esterhuysen, Alice Jones, Elise Martin-Boucherb, Liam Worth and Zoe Jones who all showed their brilliance in long jump, short sprints, hurdles and longer distance running and were rewarded with medals presented by Sir Mo Farah!

Results to follow when available.

Special thanks to Daniel Esterhuysen for taking all the photos at the event.

BFTTA

Sunday saw another Lee Valley indoors event this time hosted by the BFTTA with several of our sprinters taking the opportunity to sprint 60m.

Congratulations to Betsy Gilder-Briggs who was competing at the event for the first time and did herself proud with a 10.02 effort.

Our more seasoned sprinters also had strong season openers – Honey Peck clocking 8.54 for a PB, Ava Carter sprinted to a new PB of 8.33and Ella Gilder-Briggs completed her 60m in 8.51 – also running a PB.

Well done too to Madison Kindler who kicked her indoor season off with a good run over 800m – 2:30.90.

Schools News

Congratulations to Ava O’Neal on her super third place finish at last week’s school district cross country.

Parkrun and Junior parkun round up

Another weekend where the weather impacted running conditions, this time, rain, and lots of it! On Saturday, a number of Beagles braved the downpour with Ollie Johnson (19:27 PB) performing very well at Raphael despite the conditions to finish 7th overall and pick up a course best. Over at Billericay, Elliot Worth (20:16) finished 3rd but recorded his first 20+ minute run on his 25th effort at the 4-lap course but could be forgiven due to the waterlogged nature of grass sections, seeing runners slipping & sliding down the usually fast downhill grass embankment! Sophie Bickerstaff (22:30) took to the conditions very well however and finished 13th & 1st female with Alex Young* (23:27) not far behind making his Parkrun debut while on pacing duties. The mud lovers assembled at Brentwood with 5 Beagles running well in the conditions. They were led in by Missy Tiller (22:02) who finished 4th and 1st female, with Stuart Crowther (23:03) not far behind in 6th. Ellie Gray (24:05)finished 11th (2nd female)while Daniel Smith (29:09) and Laura Durn (29:10) ran a steady 5k finishing mid-pack.

On Sunday, a window of dry weather meant a number of younger Beagles ventured out for their 2k runs. At Harrow Lodge, Missy Tiller (07:08)continued her fine weekend of running to finish 1st overall and record a time less than 10 seconds outside her PB. Blossom Smith* (08:36) also ran well to finish 5th, while setting a new PB was Freya Brewington (10:52 PB), finishing in 18th.

There was a good showing of club members at Hutton Rec with Jamie Murphy (08:40) and Ethan Wilson (09:11) securing a 1-2 finish. Daniel Smith (09:25) came 5th with Nora Heidemans (10:49) 6th and Max Wilson (11:29) 9th. At Lake Meadows, Sophie Bickerstaff (08:11) matched her best time to finish 4th.

Well done to all our runners this weekend. Note for parents, if your child has an * by their name, please help our editors by adding Brentwood Beagles as their club under their parkrun profile (groups). Feel free to contact us if you need help setting this up.
