It’s been a disappointing week with several outdoor races and many parkruns cancelled through poor weather. Fortunately, indoors were still on and the prior week saw another exciting Essex league cross country took place last week with yet more brilliant Beagles performances. A huge congratulations too to Yvo who has been on his marathon travels and doing the Beagles proud overseas.

BFTTA Open

There were a couple of Beagles in action at the latest BFTTA Open which took place at Lee Valley. Missy Tiller, in her first track race as a U17, ran over 800m to finish the heat first in 2:23.39. Stuart Carter had two runs over 60m and showed great sprinting over both. In the first effort he finished in 8.25 taking a chunk off his PB, only to push that new PB further in his second run with another new best on 8.23. Well done!

Valencia Marathon!

Huge congratulations to Yvo Heidemans who travelled to Spain to take part in the Valencia marathon. Despite a few months of disruption to training for a variety of reasons, Yvo did an amazing job over the 26 miles to finish in 3:34.51.

Parkrun and Junior parkun round up (30/11 & 1/12)

A busy weekend of cross country for Beagles meant turnout at parkrun was a little lower than usual but as always, we had representative taking on their 5km and 2km runs.

On Saturday, much milder weather allowed for some good times at Raphael where there was an impressive turnout of Beagles. First home was Simon Knightbridge (18:21) who took 3rd overall, while Keith Thornton (20:26) was in good form himself taking 14th, just 15 seconds outside his best time. Dylan Hussain (21:35 PB) collected his fastest course time in style by taking over 90 seconds off his previous record. Liam Worth (25:50) finished 89th with Elliot Worth (same time) in 90th. Freya Brewington (28:47) and Stuart Bennett (31:36) also enjoyed their mornings’ work.

Just the one other runner as Matthew Cottee (25:03) ran well on his first appearance at Hadleigh taking 10th on the tough course.

On Sunday, our juniors were out and about at 3 local courses, Harrow Lodge, Hutton Rec. and Maldon Prom. At Harrow Lodge, Lianne Esterhuysen (07:42) ran strongly to take 2nd overall and 1st female to cap a fine weekend of running. Just behind in 3rd was Aria Lily Sabado (07:50) while 4th went to Blossom Smith (08:17). Finley Smith* (09:41) took 10th, Zachary Wilson (09:49) 12th, Danel Esterhuysen (10:07) 15th and Liza Esterhuysen (11:48 PB) 31st, and a new course best, well done!

At Lake Meadows, Madison Kindler (07:00) ran strongly to take 1st place overall by 45 seconds, while also running was Sage Kernohan (11:59) who finished 22nd. Touring for the first time at Maldon Prom was Adam Armour (07:53), another Beagle to take the #1 token!

Finally at Hutton Rec., a good turn out as yet another Beagle crossed the line first. Thea Clark* (08:22 PB) held off a determined effort from the 1st male runner to claim a course best by 26 seconds! Also impressing with strong efforts were Nadia Price (08:59) in 5th, Liam Worth (09:07) 6th, Nora Heidemans (09:13) 7th and Alexandra Johnston (09:14) 8th. There were plenty more Beagles to come as Max Morris (09:55) took 11th, Jessica Thomson* (10:07) 12th, Chloe Thomson* (10:17) 13th and Joshua Thomson* (10:58) 17th.

Parkrun and Junior parkun round up (7/12 & 8/12)

Storm Darragh disrupted many people’s parkrun plans over the weekend; however, a few intrepid runners still ventured out into the wind and rain.

On Saturday, it was Brentwood Parkrun’s 10th anniversary, and both Simon Knightbridge (21:30, 6th) and Elliot Worth (22:14, 8th) were in attendance, having also participated in the very first running of the event way back in 2014! Despite atrocious conditions, the top four finishers were all Beagles runners, posting great times in the mud. Jude Hearn (19:12) took 1st, Scott Brooks (20:00) 2nd, Summer Smith (20:09) an impressive 3rd and 1st female, and Robin Smith (20:11) 4th. Keith Thornton (23:33, 13th) capped off a fine turnout by the club. There was just one other club runner out, as Matt Earing* (24:06 PB) took on Brockwell Parkrun.

The conditions also put paid to many of our local junior events on Sunday but special kudos to 2 of our determined youngsters who ventured to new events to get their runs in. It was a worthwhile effort for Adam Armour (08:55) who took on Hawkwell as a first timer and took the #1 token by over 3 minutes! At Chelmsford on a modified course, Liam Worth (10:00) dodged the puddles and branches to finish 10th.

Well done to all our representatives this weekend. Can we please remind you that we can only pick up your results in the parkun club report if you register yourself as being part of the club in your parkrun profile. Unfortunately, the automatic club report only works on the Saturday parkruns so we are unable to spot performances at junior parkruns beyond the local ones we monitor (Harrow Lodge, Hutton Rec., Chelmsford, Lake Meadows and Northlands). Feel free to contact us if you need help setting up your profile or if you want to tell us about your runs further afield.

Coming up

It’s the turn of our older athletes to take the spotlight with the Essex Vets championships taking place this Saturday. Good luck to everyone competing!
