This week a number of our athletes tried something different with a trip to Chelmsford for Sportshall athletics.

Sportshall

Nine of our Beagles went to Chelmsford on Saturday afternoon to compete in the first round of the Essex Sportshall competition. Accessible for all athletes in Years 5-10, this event focuses on some of the basic athletics movements around run, jump and throw with very specific sportshall events such as the over and under race, vertical jump and speed bounce. All athletes compete in four events – one throw/agility, one jump, one run and one free choice. It was a really fun afternoon and definitely a different twist on the normal athletics competitions!

Ava O’Neal U11 – Over and under race – 1st in heat – 21.3, One lap race, – 3rd in heat – 13.3, Standing long jump – joint 4th – 1.69m, Standing triple jump – 1st place – 4.56m

Caitlyn Beeston U11 – One lap race – 3rd in heat – 13.5, Chest push – joint 10th place –  4.25m, Standing long jump – joint 6th – 1.67m

Sky Reeve U11 – Over and under race – 1st place – 20.8, One lap race – joint 3rd place – 12.9, Chest push – joint 1st place – 5.75m, Vertical jump – joint 3rd – 36

Nicole Hawkins U13 – 4 lap race – 1st place – 50.3, Standing long jump – 3rd place – 2.01m, Standing triple jump – 2nd place 5.19m, Speed Bounce – 1st place – 68 jumps

Isabel Forrest U13 – 6 lap race – 2nd place – 1:27.9, Standing long jump – 10th place – 1.7m, Vertical jump – 8th place – 32, Speed Bounce – 8th place – 54 jumps

Honey Peck U13 – 2 lap race – 3rd place – 24.1

Imogen Warn U13 – 2 lap race – 4th in heat – 28.8, Linear shot – 7th place – 2.84m, Speed Bounce – 9th place – 46 jumps

Chrissie Omideyi U13 – 2 lap race – 1st in heat – 26.4, Standing triple jump – 3rd place 4.73m

Olivia Forrest U15 – 4 lap race – 3rd place – 53.4, Standing triple jump – 2nd place – 5.28m, Vertical jump – 10th place – 32, Speed Bounce – joint 3rd place – 69 jumps

Evie Warn U15 – 2 lap race – 4th in heat – 25.9, Linear shot – 7th place – 4.63m, Speed Bounce – 5th place – 68 jumps

If you would be interested in competing in future rounds you can find more information here – 26th November and 10th December are the two remaining dates in the series and an squad will be chosen to represent Essex on 28th January at the regional finals. Active Essex Awards

We would all like to congratulate one of our founding Beagles, Olivia Forrest, on her recent inclusion in the four shortlisted finalists of the Young Sports Personality of the Year in the Active Essex Awards. All our regular news readers will know that Olivia has been in brilliant form this season with strong performances across a range of local, county and national events. Olivia also competes outside of athletics in swimming and triathlon competitions. We wish her every luck and hope she enjoys her celebration evening in December.

Parkrun and junior parkrun

Some brilliant performances at parkrun again this week. Over at Raphael’s Park on Saturday we saw a great new PB from George Ashton (18:39) and a strong run from Emily Brewington (25:50) – congratulations! At South Woodham Ferrers Elliot Worth took first place (19:54) whilst at Seaford Beach, Mattie Delea managed a new 5k PB (20:36) – well done! At Harrow Lodge, Matthew Cottee also ran a great new PB (24:44) whilst, Steve Danby held the fort at Brentwood(23:15)

Another soggy Sunday, still saw some great junior parkrun performances. At Lake Meadows, Liam Worth (9.57) was followed home by Nora Heidemans who managed a new PB (10:06). At Harrow Lodge Olivia Forrest came home first (7:07) with Evie Warn third with a great new PB (7:27) and Isabel Forrest fourth (7:29). Emily Brewington (9:28) and Ethan Wilson (9:54)to show good weekly consistency. Imogen Warn ran the course for the first time (10:52) and Zoe Jones also collected a great new PB (11:07). Max Wilson (11:31) was followed home by Alice Jones (11:37) and Emily Johnson (11:58).
