The last couple of weeks have been an excellent example of the huge variety of activities our Beagles get up to on the average weekend – from southern cross country to parkrun, from the minithon to sportshall – our Beagles were producing great results in all these places! Well done all!
Southern XC Relays
On Saturday (19th) our endurance runners were in London for the South of England Athletic Association XC Relays which took place at Wormwood Scrubs.
First race of the day saw our U17 women compete over 3km. A strong and determined start from Evie Warn saw her stick to the front of the pack coming back in second place (10:32). Mara Thomas took over and ran strongly to consolidate the team position in second (11:39). Olivia Forrest brought the team home in the final leg closing the gap on the leaders but ultimately finishing in second place to earn team silver. Olivia also finished with the fastest leg of the race (10:18).
Next up were the U13 girls who ran over 2km. Sophie Bickerstaff gained some valuable first leg experience running today as a single runner. She did a great job pushing towards the front of the pack to finish 7th on the first leg (8:17). First runner in the Beagles team was Amalie Twydell who spent much of the lap running alongside Sophie and finished just behind her in 8th (8:27). Handing over to Aria Sabado an unfortunate delay in change over occurred (due to what appeared to be a mix up over our club colours and another clubs), but Aria got her head down and moved forwards pushing the team into 6th (8:39). Madison Kindler took over for the final leg and despite her best efforts, which saw her run the fastest U13 girls leg of the day, she only had enough distance to get the team to third (7:18). A brilliant bronze medal for the team!
Our U13 boys were out to pick up some valuable experience at area level events. First leg today was Adam Armour who set off with enthusiasm and gave it everything in his leg (8:28). Coming back in 21st he handed off to Mason Grindrod who set off on a hunt to gain some places. Moving the team up into 18th with his run (8:33), he sent Hugo Wilks off on the final leg. Hugo also did a great job of making up places and the team ended up 15th overall (8:16). Well done boys!
Our U15 girls also ran over 2km and were running as an incomplete team today. Missy Tiller started off on the lead leg and kept focused on sticking with the front runners for the majority of the lap before finishing in 6th (7:52). Handing over to Isabel Forrest, Isabel consolidated the team place and also finished her leg in 6th (8:20). Valuable experience for both!
Final team of the day were our U15 boys running over 2km. An act of kindness on the start line saw Jude Hearn miss out on a front row starting position, but he soon made up ground and had another strong run (6:56). Passing over in 8th position, Matthew Jones took over and once again showed his continued good form (7:52) and was unlucky to lose places amongst some stronger runners. Mattie Delea took over in 21st place but saw a good opportunity to make up ground and pushed the team forward to 19th overall (7:35).
Huge congratulations to all who ran! Brilliant performances against strong competition from across the South.

Essex Cross Country League Round 2
Another brilliant Saturday at the Essex cross country league for many of our Beagles. With the fixture clashing with half term holidays for many of our athletes, we were thrilled to see another set of superb results for those that were at Gloucester Park to take on the big hill!
First runners of the day were our twenty U11s who were running 1.5k. Mirroring her result in the first league race, Lianne Esterhuysen finished as first female (5:41) and 6th overall! Blossom Smith was 4th (6:13), Isabelle Holme 7th (6:25), Thea Clark 10th (6:35), Nora Heidemans 17th (6:59), Camilla Nash 18th (7:01), Evie Foley 19th (7:02) and Lottie Fowler 23rd (7:05). Amalie Twydell also ran brilliantly to finish 3rd (12:25) with more great running from Caitlin Phillips 16th (14:09) and Grace Lander 21st (14:31). The U15s were tackling a 4k course and once again our Beagles were at the front. A great run by Heidi Woodley saw her finish as first female (15:59), Isabel Forrest was 5th (17:36), Izzy Young 9th (18:42) and Amber Walker 31st (21:28). For the boys Jude Hearn produced a superb sprint finish to take second place (14:44). Also running well were Jake Mitchell in 20th (16:47), Frankie Edwards 25th (17:19), Ollie Johnson 26th (17:21) and Matthew Jones 28th (17:33).

Thanks to Mike and Andrew for photos!
Beachy Head
Mattie Delea started his 10k experiences in style, picking the challenging and hilly Beachy Head event. Fortunately, the years of hill training have paid off and he came a brilliant 12th overall and second in his age group in 44:43. Well done Mattie!
Also doing us proud in Beachy Head was Marc Delea who took on the marathon and even more hills! A tough event but a great effort – 6:48.47 – congratulations!

Congratulation to four of our Beagles who travelled to London for the last Friday of the month Serpentine 5k. Max Sanderson finished second overall (15:50), Olivia Forrest was first female (17:08), Heidi Woodley was third female with a new PB (17:25) and Isabel Forrest was also in good form (20:38).
Jack Petchey Awards
Huge congratulations to our first ever Jack Petchey Foundation achievement award winners. Nominated by their fellow athletes, we saw three brilliant winners collect their certificates tonight.
Dean Savery from our endurance squad – recognised for being a great model both when volunteering as a coaching assistant across our training groups and for leading by example in his races, including his recent first place (U20) in the Essex League.
Evie Abbott from our sprint squad – showing a committed approach to training and continued progress right to the end of track season over the hurdles.
Henry Pinato from our multi events – always proactively and positively supporting his fellow athletes and showing a real step up from training into his cross country performances.
Well done to all three! The first of many athletes we hope to be celebrating thanks to the support of the Jack Petchey Foundation.

Parkrun and Junior parkun round up (19th/20th October)
It was a wet and very Autumnal Saturday morning but there was a strong turnout of Beagles at Raphael parkrun. At the front of the field there was a battle for 3rd place between Simon Knightbridge (18:13) and Rob Trevor (18:14), with Simon just crossing the line first. Further back but still making the top 10 was Elliot Worth (19:43) in 8th, while Jemimah Knightbridge* (20:27) was 1st female for the 3rd week in a row and 15th overall. In 27th was Emily Brewington (21:50), just 1 second ahead of Keith Thornton (21:51) while Freya Brewington (27:26) ran well to finish 14th female.
Elsewhere, at Chelmsford, Isabelle Young (26:11) placed 172th from a field of nearly 500, and at Brentwood, Phil Price (21:19) finished 3rd and Olivia Kerr* was close to her PB in 62nd (35:11) with dad Aiden Kerr* on pacing duties (35:11). Finally at Wickford, Scott Brooks (18:22) was once again in good form finishing 2nd while brother Kurt Brooks (20:04) finished 8th, narrowly outside his course best.

Leading the Beagles in with a determined effort was Nadia Price (08:41 PB), who finished 4th and 1st female. 5th went to Nora Heidemans (09:23) while Liam Worth (09:25) was just behind in 7th. Bailee Abrahams (09:40 PB) ran well to take 8th and pick up a course best while next over the line was Max Morris (09:57). Just the one runner at Lake Meadows as Sophie Bickerstaff (07:25 PB) took 3rd place and demolished her PB by nearly 30 seconds, fantastic effort!

Well done to all our representatives this weekend. Can we please remind you that we can only pick up your results in the parkun club report if you register yourself as being part of the club in your parkrun profile. Unfortunately, the automatic club report only works on the Saturday parkruns so we are unable to spot performances at junior parkruns beyond the local ones we monitor (Harrow Lodge, Hutton Rec., Chelmsford, Lake Meadows and Northlands). Feel free to contact us if you need help setting up your profile or if you want to tell us about your runs further afield.
Coming up
It’s the National XC relays this weekend in Mansfield where our athletes will be picking up some valuable experience and hoping for better weather than last year! The event is livestreamed so look out for the link on social media. Good luck too to our athletes taking on the second round of the Essex Sportshall competition. And a special good luck to Scott Brooks who is taking on the New York marathon!
