Mega March… March traditionally sees a real crossover of competition – the end of cross country season and indoors and the first signs of outdoor events. It’s been an amazing month with Beagles successes at National level, International level and at the Essex and Eastern indoor championships. We’ve also seen amazing running from our junior athletes in schools races and brilliant results at the national schools biathlon! Well done to everyone competing and apologies in advance for anything missed in this update!
National Intercounties & Cross Challenge Final
Today saw Team Beagles transform into Team Essex as we took on the National Intercounties and Cross Challenge Final in Nottingham! A beautiful day but a challenging run with lots of hills on offer!
It was a brilliant start to the day with the U13 girls 3km race which saw Madison Kindler back on top form with another great win to take, not only the intercounties title, but also the cross challenge one! Her time was 11:58. Also running well and finishing second in the Essex team, 26th overall, was Sophie Bickerstaff (12:41). Amalie Twydell did us proud with her run to finish 158th (13:52).
In the U15 boys race, Orly Morton made his Essex debut with a good performance over 4km to finish 183rd (15:42).
Our U17 girls ran 5km in a very exciting race which saw lots of strong competition. Olivia Forrest finished 9th overall and 1st in Essex (19:21). She also picked up the third place trophy for her cross challenge performances. Mara Thomas continued her run of strong races this year to finish 61st (20:42) and Evie Warn suffered from some aggressive pushing and was 72nd (20:56).
Max Sanderson did a great job over 6km in the U17 men’s race. Finishing 3rd in Essex and 56th overall (20:34).
Congratulations to George Bangs who also had a good first intercounties experience in the U13 boys race over 3km. He also finished 3rd in Essex / 135th overall (12:24).
Finally our U15 girls helped Essex to a third place team finish with their run over 4km. A super run by Summer Smith saw her finish in 5th but agonisingly close to the medals (15:12). Heidi Woodley had another strong run to finish 14th (15:40) and she picked up the third place trophy for her cross challenge efforts this season! Well done too to Isabel Forrest who was able to run as a Beagle because of her earlier cross challenge performances. She finished 204th (18:24).
Well done to everyone for a brilliant day of performances.
Essex & Eastern Indoors
We had a brilliant couple of days at Lee Valley for the Essex and Eastern indoor championships. We saw championship records, wins, podiums, personal bests, tonnes of valuable experience and so much Beagles spirit! Well done to all our brilliant Beagles – we’re incredibly proud of you!
Day one was focused on short sprint events and the very first race of the day saw a superb win by Max Cheetham (U13) over 60m – 8.02. Later in the day he was back for the final and did even better, breaking 8 seconds for the first time (7:99) and winning the Essex and Eastern titles by a considerable margin. Max also managed to fit in some long jumping – with a best jump of 3.93m.
Also gaining valuable championship experience as an U13 was Elsie Martin-Bouchareb who picked up three new PB’s in her events on Saturday. In the 60m she produced a good sprint of 9.47, in the 60m hurdles she showed good form with her run of 12.19 and she had a best long jump of 3.18m.
Patrick Connor (U13) did well at his first championships with a 60m sprint of 10.73 and 60m hurdles effort of 14.47. Both PBs! We also saw a good return to competition for Jeremy Li (U17) who picked up a new PB over 60m of 8.06.
Zac Niyazi (U13) had some brilliant performances that saw him pick up PBs in all his events. Over 60m he ran 9.38, over the 60m hurdles, his first round effort of 12.44 which saw him earn a place in the final where he finished in 13.25. And in the long jump it was a best effort of 3.65m.
Our brilliant vet sprinters were also out giving their best over 60m. Stuart Carter picked up Essex bronze with his effort of 8.31. And Justin Waithe produced a seasons best to finish 4th in Essex – 8.35.
Eleanor Angeli (U17) continued to build on her shot put experience extending her PB to 7.02m with some great throwing. Also doing field events were Austin Lever (U13) who picked up a new long jump PB with his best jump of 3.25m, and Joshua Lever (U15) who also jumped to a new PB of 4.23m.
Also having a good day was Evie Abbot (U15) who picked up a new 60m PB of 8.65 to qualify for the semi final where she ran well again – 8.93. Evie also showed strength in the hurdles with a good effort of 10.27.
The start of the day on Sunday saw our race walkers take part in a special 1000m development event. Emma Dyos finished as second female in 5:34.61, with Stuart Bennett second male in 5:47.40. Celia Cordran was also walking well with her time of 6:55.60. And a very honorable mention to Andreas Angeli making his competition debut and showing some good elements of technique but unfortunately getting disqualified.
Continuing the great sprinting performances from day one, Max Cheetham again led the way with a superb qualifying run in the 200m heats, and a new PB of 25.66. He followed that up with another championship win in Essex and the East Region showing dominance with his time of 25.82.
Also sprinting well over 200m were Elsie Martin-Boucherab who picked up another PB of 31.96, Ava Carter (U17) who picked up a seasons best of 28.38, and Neosochi Onychere (U17) who showed good progress in her race before getting disqualified for a lane infringement.
Natanya Itiola (U13) had a busy day showing brilliant progression through the 200m rounds – a PB in the heats of 29.32 followed by a superb semi final win and another new PB of 28.69. Unfortunately, her run in the final, which saw her finish in the medals, was dismissed for a lane infringement and she was disqualified.
Daisy Willingale (U17) also had a strong day of performances – running 28.01 in the opening round of the 200m which saw her qualify for the semi final where she ran 28.28. But it was in the triple jump where she really excelled, picking up Essex silver with her best jump of 9.31m.
An afternoon of middle distance racing saw a good collection of medals accumulated for team Beagles. In the 800m our U13s were running time trials – Madison Kindler dominated her race and was the overall winner, also taking the championship record – 2:20.72. Emily Brewington picked up a PB of 2:52.23 and Lianne Esterhuysen also improved on her best with a run of 2:39.56.
The U15s also had time trials, and despite being in different races, three of our girls all achieved almost identical times! Sophie Bickerstaff ran a PB of 2:38.42, Aria Sabado a SB of 2:38.44 and Amalie Twydell a SB of 2:38.77. Amber Walker made her debut over the distance with a good run of 2:40.29. Frankie Edwards achieved an SB in the boys race with his run of 2:28.61.

Daniel East ran a strategic heat of 2:14.14 to qualify for the final, where he once again smashed his personal best and took Essex gold and Eastern silver with his run of 2:03.50. On the girls side both Jess Page (2:29.94 SB) and Missy Tiller (2:28.15) qualified for their final. In the final a very close battle through the field saw Jess finish in 2:30.96 and Missy collecting Essex and Eastern silver in 2:24.52.
The U17 1500m girls race saw a win (Essex / Eastern gold) for Olivia Forrest (4:39.64) and silver Essex and Eastern medals for Evie Warn (4:57.06). Also running well was Isabel Forrest (5:33.40).

Well done to all our representatives at parkrun. Can we please remind you that we can only pick up your results in the parkun club report if you register yourself as being part of the club in your parkrun profile. Unfortunately, the automatic club report only works on the Saturday parkruns so we are unable to spot performances at junior parkruns beyond the local ones we monitor (Harrow Lodge, Hutton Rec., Chelmsford, Lake Meadows, Great Notley and Northlands). Feel free to contact us if you need help setting up your profile or if you want to tell us about your runs further afield.
