The Beagles cross country adventures continued this week with a trip across the border to Wales which saw our athletes impress once again. Well done too to everyone who has been running for their schools – this week saw the regional round of the English School Cup with Beagles winning 4 of the 6 races!
Cardiff Cross Challenge
A trip to Cardiff saw brilliant results for the Beagles in the first round of this year’s cross challenge series. A great course that always raises a smile with its addition of a log jump!
First race of the day was the under 11 girls race over 1.25km which saw a mature run from Lianne Esterhuysen who ignored the early sprints of other athletes to run a consistent and strong pace that saw her take the win in 5:53. The U13 girls race followed soon after with a distance of 2.78km. Madison Kindler started strongly and continued to push forwards throughout the race with a really dominant display that also saw her victorious, winning in 9:13. Also running as a U13 in the boys race was Ollie Trevor who showed good determination and finished with a strong sprint to complete his race in 22nd – 12:51.
The U15 girls event over 3.2k saw a strong run from Isabel Forrest who enjoyed her Cardiff debut to finish 18th in 11:58. Next were the U17 women who ran over 4.45k in a very competitive event. Olivia Forrest was towards the front, ultimately finishing 5th in 15:17 with Evie Warn also running really well to finish in 12th – 15:58.
Max Sanderson, running in the U17 men’s race over 5.56k ran confidently throughout with an impressive performance that saw him finish 10th against a very strong field – 17:01. The final race of the day saw an enthusiastic performance from Daniel Esterhuysen, running with the senior men over 9.6k. A full 3 laps of the course meant lots of chances to practice his log jump and he showed great consistency throughout to finish 74th overall and 3rd in the V40 bracket with his run of 41:21.
A huge well done to everyone who ran – brilliant to have such a show of strength at a prestigious event from both supporters and runners.
Remembrance Run
Saturday also saw the ATW remembrance run take place at Carver Barracks. Amalie Twydell took on the 5k picking up a new PB of 19:53 and a bronze medal for coming third female overall! Well done. Photo by Mark J Easton.

Well done to all our representatives this weekend. Can we please remind you that we can only pick up your results in the parkun club report if you register yourself as being part of the club in your parkrun profile. Unfortunately, the automatic club report only works on the Saturday parkruns so we are unable to spot performances at junior parkruns beyond the local ones we monitor (Harrow Lodge, Hutton Rec., Chelmsford, Lake Meadows and Northlands). Feel free to contact us if you need help setting up your profile or if you want to tell us about your runs further afield.
Coming up
It’s an incredibly busy week of cross country! First we have all the district school sports events taking place with lots of Beagles involved. At the weekend three competing high profile events are on – the Essex League at Hilly Fields, Eastern XC in Bury St Edmonds, and the London Youth Games at Parliament Hill. Wherever you are running – good luck! We know you will do us proud.
