September has flown by for our Beagles. Typically a quieter month in the athletics calendar, there have still been a range of events sought out by our athletes and it’s been brilliant to see the progress being made. September has also seen the start of relay season – and the amazing teamwork that brings which really showcases the best of our club.

Southern Road Relays Championships

It was a super Saturday for our relay teams in Aldershot at the South of England Athletic Association Road Relays where our under 13 girls absolutely annihilated the competition to take gold in their event!

Running over 3km, the under 13 girls showed they meant business from the start with superb first legs from Sophia Davies (10:17) and Emily Brewington (11:45). Lianne Esterhuysen took over for the second leg with a strong run of 10:51 before Madison Kindler brought the team home in 10.10 – the fastest U13 girls leg of the day. As a collective the team finished well over 2 minutes ahead of the nearest competition and any combination of our girls would have seen the win!

Our under 15 girls also did us proud and ran over the same 3km distance. Amalie Twydell got the team off to a good start with her run of 11:33, handing over to Aria Sabado who picked off several runners on her leg with her time of 12:00. Finally Sophie Bickerstaff stormed through the field in 10:57 to place the team 13th overall. A great result given all the girls were first years in the age category.

A huge well done to U17 Matthew Jones who came to work on his mass start and road running experience and had a great run to finish his 4.6km run in 17:01.

Finally our U17 women who also ran over 4.6km who demonstrated incredible resilience throughout their race. The first leg saw Zara Morley pushed over at the start and despite being covered in scrapes and bleeding, she got up and excelled in her run with a time of 17:13. Isabel Forrest took over and set off at pace, then persevered through a difficult second lap, and illness, to run 19:39. Evie Warn did a superb job to pick up places and brought the team home in 14th with her run of 17.29.

Vitality 10k and Westminster Mile

Congratulations to Robin Smith who had a superb run in the Vitality 10k to finish 8th in his age category with his run of 34:28.

Well done to all our parkrun representatives. Can we please remind you that we can only pick up your results in the parkun club report if you register yourself as being part of the club in your parkrun profile. Unfortunately, the automatic club report only works on the Saturday parkruns so we are unable to spot performances at junior parkruns beyond the local ones we monitor (Harrow Lodge, Hutton Rec., Chelmsford, Lake Meadows, Great Notley and Northlands). Feel free to contact us if you need help setting up your profile or if you want to tell us about your runs further afield.
