It’s been a month of relays, team work and the start of cross country. We have seen so many examples of brilliant Beagles running from local schools races to national championships. The training is paying off and the results are amazing! Well done to everyone who has started their off track season so well.

English National Road Relays

The English National Road Relays in Birmingham saw Brentwood Beagles as the only club in the Country to pick up two National team titles thanks to our amazing U13 and U15 girls!

Despite the threat of Storm Amy, the relays in Sutton Park went ahead without incident although the windy conditions did make for a tough run. With all the junior teams running 3.88km per leg, our U13 girls kicked off the day with another absolute display of domination to finish 1st by almost 3 minutes with each team member the fastest runner in their leg and Madison Kindler taking the fastest leg overall in the race. The girls got off to a fantastic start with Sophia Davies calmly dealing with the craziness of the start line and making her way to the front of the pack, then building a lead, with a great run of 13:44. Lianne Esterhuysen took over and extended the lead to create some real space to the rest of the field with her run of 14:28 before Madison took over and continued to push the pace to extended the lead with her run of 13:25.

The U15 girls race was a much more competitive affair with another tough starting pen dealt with superbly by Heidi Woodley who ran very strongly to put the team just behind the lead runner with her effort of 13:25. Sophie Bickerstaff continued to apply pressure to the lead runner, swapping places with her several times throughout her leg and reaching the handover point just behind her – 14:20. Summer Smith took over and bided her time well to ensure that she was best placed to take the win with a really well judged run of 13:16. Well done girls – a brilliant win!

Finally our U17 women also had a good day in Birmingham finishing 13th out of the 58 teams taking part. With a good first leg from Evie Warn who battled well with the busy conditions to find her space and push on with her run of 14:27. Isabel Forrest took over and ran well keeping a nice consistent pace to allow a strong finish – 15:30. Zara Morley ran the final leg strongly, picking off several teams to ensure the excellent finishing position – 14:38.

East Region Volunteer Awards

We want to say a huge well done to the brilliant John Armour who is a superb representative of our club.  John was named as the runner up in the England Athletics East Region Volunteer Awards for being an inspiring official because of all he has given to the sport over the last year, particularly working in start teams.

#teambeagles isn’t just about the people competing, it’s about everyone who gives up their time to support our athletes, be that coaching, officiating, serving on our committee or just general helping. If you want to get more involved then speak to Vicky on any training night – we always need more help!

Parkrun & junior parkrun roundup (25/26 October)

There was a go

Well done to all our parkrun representatives. Can we please remind you that we can only pick up your results in the parkun club report if you register yourself as being part of the club in your parkrun profile. Unfortunately, the automatic club report only works on the Saturday parkruns so we are unable to spot performances at junior parkruns beyond the local ones we monitor (Harrow Lodge, Hutton Rec., Chelmsford, Lake Meadows, Great Notley and Northlands). Feel free to contact us if you need help setting up your profile or if you want to tell us about your runs further afield.

Coming up

November will continue to see a focus on cross country, with the second Essex XC league event, London Youth Games cross country, the first cross challenge and the next round of the English Schools cup. Good luck to all competing!
