June has been full to the brim with Beagles adventures! From super successes at schools events, to championship performances, we’ve seen more Beagles competing than ever before and it’s been brilliant to see you in action and hear all of your success stories. We couldn’t be prouder! In particular we have heard excellent results in school district events and quad kids but both of these sets of results aren’t easily available publicly – thank you to everyone who shared them with us.

Pleshey 5 miles

Congratulations to Zara Morley who ran strongly throughout the Pleshey 5 mile race to finish 6th female in 31:19.

SEAA Age Group Championships

Taking place in Crystal Palace, the SEAA championships saw the most bizarre of weekends – with Saturday seeing horrendous weather and meeting conditions leading to huge challenges for our athletes to deal with! Not that this stopped U17 javelin thrower Jess Page winning bronze in her event with a best throw 34.82m. This was even more impressive because Jess spent her entire competition in torrential rain  and could barely see where she was throwing!

Saturday also saw some brilliant action in the heats of various races. U17 Daniel East ran strongly over 800m to qualify for the final in 2:03.17. Macey Pitts (U13) picked up two PBs – in the long jump 3.18m and over 200m – 31.39. Lianne Esterhuysen (U13) ran an 800m PB of 2:37.53 and jumped well in the long jump – 3.02m. Also running in the U13 800m and qualifying for the final with their performances were Madison Kindler – 2:24.93, and Sophia Davies – 2:31.5. Finally in the U17 women’s 1500m it was qualification for Olivia Forrest – 4:43.61 and Evie Warn – 4:47.56. Also running well in the 1500m were U17s Jude Hearn – 4:22.63 and Isabel Forrest – 5:14.18.

Conditions were definitely better on Sunday both weather and competition organisation wise! And the day started brilliantly with a race win and gold medal for Madison Kindler in the 800m – 2:16.28. Sophia Davies in the same race ran a new PB of 2:30.68.

Daniel East ran his 800m semi final doing well in a competitive race – 2:11.03. Kairhys Hoyte (U15) picked up some valuable experience in his 100m – 13.64. Olivia Forrest finished 4th in the 1500m – 4:32.46. And Max Cheetham (U13) had two strong performances in the 200m – 25.87 to finish first in his heat, and a new PB of 25.22 to finish 4th in the final. Max also had a solid long jump competition with a best jump of 4.47m.

Jack Petchey Winners

A huge congratulations to our latest Jack Petchey Foundation award winners.

Endurance – Amalie Twydell. Amalie has shown incredible resilience over the last few months, taking results that she wasn’t happy with, and working hard to improve. She’s stepped up to support the team at EYAL and competed in all sorts of races seeing some brilliant results which has really inspired her fellow athletes.

Sprints – Natanya Itiola. Natanya is consistent with her training – listening, working hard and pushing to improve. She has been one of our best EYAL scorers and is a great support to the new sprinters at events.

Multi event – Elsie Martin-Bouchareb. Elsie has been another brilliant addition to the EYAL team trying her hand at a range of new events in order to score points. She works really hard to give her best and we have seen improvements in sprints, hurdles and throws as a result. She really encourages the other athletes around her to give their best too. Well done Elsie!

Crown to Crown 5k

At the June crown to crown 5k, it was a double under 18 victory with Ollie Johnson taking the male win in 18:56 and Zara Morley taking the female one in 19:49. Well done too to Matthew Jones – 20:36, and Adam Armour – 21:30.

Essex 5000m

Essex 5000m championships, which took place at our very own Brentwood track, we saw a good effort by Scott Brooks who ran 17:17.80. Olivia Forrest picked up some valuable experience over the distance at 17:20.70. And Max Sanderson picked up a 30 second PB – 15:05.30

Stratford Speed

The Stratford Speed event saw a great opportunity for our sprinters to mix with some of the top talent in the country and improve on their own best times!

Kicking things off and once again showing remarkable progress and ability for his age, was U13 Max Cheetham. Over 100m he picked up a brilliant new PB of 12.07 and had a second run of 12.24 – also under his previous best time. Later in the day Max also sprinted to a new 200m PB – 25.07.

Also doing the double today, was U13 Natanya Itiola who also went under her 100m previous best twice with sprints of 13.55 and 13.58. She was also just marginally outside her 200m PB with a strong effort of 28.72.

Over 200m we saw three U15 Beagles pick up personal bests – Evie Haworth ran 30.48, Jessica Bone ran 28.15 and Lois Watson ran 31.17.

Well done all and a huge thank you to Mark C for the photos

SEAA U20s / Senior Championships

The first day of the South of England Athletic Association U20/Senior Championships at Chelmsford saw a brilliant gold medal run from Evie Warn over the 1500m steeplechase. Picking up a new PB of 5:07.11 in the process, Evie looked strong and dominant throughout the U17 event.

Also running well was Senior Owen Adams, who picked up a new 400m PB in the heats of 50.29 which qualified him for the semi finals. Unfortunately a slight hamstring twinge meant he pulled out of that run.

And finally, U20 Max Sanderson had another brilliant sub 4 minute 1500m run to finish just a tiny fraction off the podium in 4th – 3:57.16.

The second day of the SEAA championships saw soaring temperatures and yet somehow a superb bronze medal and PB for U15 Sophie Bickerstaff in the 3000m! A brilliantly committed run and consistent lap times saw Sophie run 10:27.56.

In the U17 3000m, Olivia Forrest was 4th in 10:20.28, Zara Morley ran 10:59.72 and Isabel Forrest 11:24.70.

Well done all – great effort given the ridiculously hot day!
